ISUCRS President’s Report

November, 2016

My dear colleagues,

I hope you have had an enjoyable summer.

Many of us have just returned from a spectacular and most successful Biennial Congress in Mumbai. The scientific program as well as the social program will long be remembered as one of the best in our history!

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks and congratulations to our organizing committee and our local hosts for this memorable meeting.  Drs. Kumkum Singh, Shekhar Suradkar, Parvez Sheikh and Niranjan Agarwal, along with their colleagues on the Organizing Committee, will long be remembered for their kindness, hospitality and collegial welcome. The meeting was a complete success in all regards- scientific and social!

At our General Assembly meeting, the membership voted for an exciting, new leadership and Executive Board that will begin to invigorate and lead our Society in this new century! I would like to congratulate our President Elect- Professor Ho-Kyung Chun, from the Republic of Korea and our Director General-Professor Narimantas Evaldas Samalavicius, from Lithuania.

Our Society has challenges but I am confident that our new leadership team, working closely with the Executive Board, will lead our Society to new heights! Soon I will be appointing new Committee Chairs and Members to these committees. I will use this opportunity to solicit volunteers to serve our society. Please consider volunteering and helping us grow and change.

Moreover, I will begin appointing new regional Vice Presidents! We will begin a dialogue with our member colleagues and all the colorectal societies internationally to strategically develop closer and more valuable relationships. We have had a vibrant membership drive that seems to have gathered strength while in Mumbai. Please consider encouraging your colleagues to join and support our organization!

We are in the process of considering several offers for our next Biennial Congress. The Executive Board will begin the serious deliberations and soon make a recommendation. The World Journal of Coloproctology continues to flourish and grow under the leadership of Marc Brozovich, MD from the University of Pittsburgh. He has brought a young and vibrant editorial board together producing a world class, internet periodical. I encourage our young surgeons to actively support this journal with submissions and to consider becoming reviewers!

Our new leadership team of Drs. Chun, Samalavicius, and Escalante, along with our new Executive Board, would like to engage you in the affairs of your Society. Please feel free to contact us directly with any suggestions on how to improve our Society.

I want to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Indru Khubchandani for his long service to our Society. He now enters that honored role of Past President and joins the Pantheon of our other distinguished past presidents- Dr. Angelita Gabr Habr, Dr. Jae Gab Park, Dr. Tetsu Muto, Dr. Robert Beart- just to name several luminaries that have led our organization. Thank you all for your contributions, service and loyalty to our Society. We are so fortunate to have all these colleagues and friends engaged in the Society! We will continue to engage you all in the affairs of our organization and use your wisdom going forward!

I would like to close with my sincere thanks and gratitude for your support! It is the greatest honor of my life to lead this prestigious and esteemed Society. I am certain, with the help and guidance of our membership, the new leadership, and the support of our new Executive Board, we will continue to grow and prosper.

All the best,
